Wine Series Number One

 Greetings  fellow wine lovers!

 Notice that I assume you love wine. That’s because you either love wine now or you will soon if I have anything to do with it. Let me tell you why I love it…

Friends. Food. Fun.

What is missing from that list? A lot, actually. There’s no mention of snooty sommeliers who disapprove of your wine selection. There’s no panicking over making the right choice for a dinner party. For something that was supposed to help us relax and enjoy our meal, we spend a lot of time being uptight about wine, don’t we? Well, I hereby give you permission to relax. I will never talk down to you. There are no silly questions. When you are in Rat’s you are in your second home and you are among friends.

Some of you may have joined me at my Toad Hall wine seminars on the third Friday of every month. If you haven’t joined me at one of these seminars, please come pay us a visit. We talk about wines from a particular part of the world or certain types of food and wine pairings. We’ve done wine and cheese pairings, Old World vs.New World,Burgundydemystified and wines fromAlsace,Chile,Spain, and on and on. This week we’re doing Port with dessert pairings. If you haven’t hadTawnyPortwith Crème Brûlée then you…well, you just have to come to the class to find out what you’ve been missing!

I’d also like to invite you to visit us next week for the Unionville Vineyards Wine Dinner on Wednesday June 22nd. You’ll have great food with great wine. Yes,New Jerseycan produce fantastic wine! We will be joined by the winemaker Cam Stark and he is amazing. Formerly of Robert Foley andMerryvaleinNapaValley, he came toNew Jerseybecause he was convinced you could make a truly great Bordeaux-style wine on the East Coast with similar weather and similar soils. He is also down to earth and a lot of fun to hang out with. He, like me, knows that wine is only juice after all.
