The Velocity of Love

By Tom Butterfoss, Members’ Musings Exhibition Participant

The Velocity of Love II was inspired by a love of music and an interest in human response.

This work is the result of a decade of exploring the interaction of color, form and space.  The subtle balances and sharp contrasts of hue that dominate my work reflect my interest in human relationships.  I feel color can be equated with human response.  Where colors clash, human relationships can clash.  Hues that are closely balanced can represent harmonious coupling.  What takes place is a dialog between the viewer and the artist’s intent.  This dialog is made up of emotional responses based on color theory.

Color behaves like man; first in self-realization and then in the realization of relationships to others.  Art parallels life.

Artwork by Tom Butterfoss has been purchased for corporate, public, & private collections and has received 20 awards including a Pollock/Krasner Grant.
